Historic Hotel Pattee in Perry, Iowa, is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. The Arts and Crafts hotel and its furnishings seem to have been hand-picked by Frank Lloyd Wright. The portion sizes of the meals served in the train-inspired David's Milwaukee Diner were just right -- not too much but not too little -- and delicious. Top the evening off with bowling in the Arthur "Oley" Olson Bowling Alley in the basement of the hotel and you have the perfect evening! The attention to detail in this hotel is impressive. Even the hallways are a pleasure to experience. The 40 rooms are decorated in themes. Choose from the "RAGBRAI / BRR" room, Swedish, Irish, Welsh, Needlework, Woodworking, even a Marching Band Room, and more. We stayed in the Alton School Room, decorated to resemble a one-room schoolhouse. The furnishings were amazing -- from the rag-rug flooring, the abacus on the wall, school house lighting, and cursive letters around the ceiling. We felt smart for staying there! Y'dstoti!

The only reason that that hotel is four stars and not 5 is because it dosen't have a pool.
