This pan-tilt head is based on the one designed my Milapse. I added a few things but the basic idea is the same. The biggest difference in his is the big flat base bearing which I couldn't find.

  • Slide the camera back so that its balanced (sort of in this config) over the tilt bearing. Then put a little friction on the tilt and it will smooth out. What you want to do is manipulate the camera about its center of gravity.

  • Actually I had some problems with the thrust bearing position I was using. I have since changed and improved the configuration. You can't just let the thrust bearing float around. It has to be fixed in place.

  • Sweet! Good job!

I found the thrust bearing at vbx bearings. So your finding out how the backlash (or play in the system) is hard to get out. I'm going to see if a machine shop can fab the shaft/plate connection so that it will be nice and tight.

  • After the windy night this evening, I will be taking measurements for a thrust bearing to balance the head out. It would have been a decently interesting video without the bounces and wobbles...

  • I guess it'a okay if you don't mind your footage having the CCTV camera move look. It looks too shakey. I've tried so much DIY stuff for camera movement/stabilization but not had great results from any of it. Been forced to save my pennies and buy what I needed over the years...

Good effort though, I couldn't build that.

  • NOW MAKE A CAMERA JIB WITH IT

  • Long live the tinkerer.......good job
