thanks for the translation, i met this song in the film "divingbell and the butterfly".. if you like this song you will piss tears watching this movie. btw i would like to learn french language just for their music and poetry. their culture is so far away from any other, so unique.. just like their food:D regards to the1 who put this song and translation here...

Trenet's commentary from the middle of the song:

"La mer" was, in fact, an American success. When I sang it in France, I was told "that's very nice but it's not swing enough." At the time, you had to sing swing. And they said it's not swing enough, it's not your genre. And "La mer" stayed for three years in a drawer.
