This video was captured from a CT scan of a live subject simulating the arm in the hanging position. The CT 3D volume image was edited by digitally slicing thru the shoulder to allow visualization of the joint between the humerus and the acromion with complete arm elevation.

Note that the rotator cuff tendon can be seen as it inserts on the humerus and is completely safe in its position below the articulation between the acromion and the humerus (the acromiohumeral joint). The acromiohumeral joint is a part-time joint engaged only with full arm elevation or while hanging from an overhead support. Notice that the humerus is well positioned to lean against the acromion providing a bending force that with time should remodel the acromion and stretch the coracoacromial arch. It is this bending/stretching force that maintains the subacromial space when the arm is at the side in the anatomical position.
