  • Could this be Weymouth, seem to remeber these being there in the early 80s ??????

Sure does bring back some memories. great to see some good old rockers.

  • @Teddyb1939 Thanks so much for your very interesting wise words as someone lucky enuff to be there! (I'm SO jealous). The BBCFour docs were gr8, G Fame etc recalling the Flamingo. You obviously know more than me but hopefully my 2ndhand take re Modmusic fashions are still semi valid?.

From a music genre viewpoint, as a Rapiers fan of 30 years I know they're all about authentic British RnR & would hate to be cast as "Mods aka scooters & pills", which was why I took issue to matty's rant.

    ATB!

  • @RockinRedRover The sharp Mod look, in my opinion was similar to the look that we had in the modern Jazz clubs around the West End in about 1956/57. The flamingo in Wardour St was a magic place. The Jazz Couriers Tony Kinsey Don Rendell, Bill La sage, Tony Crombie etc. The suits in the main we had made at Sam Arkus In Berwick or Wardour St, the look was sharp. Tonic mohair type material, short jackets,no vents or fancy bits.Slim lapels narrow strides, slim, stiff collared shirts, slim ties.SMOOTH

  • "Mod" fashion originated from sharp Italian tailored suits etc from the 50s, as you appear to know. If as I had suggested you took the time to look at clips of early (late 50s-early 60s) Cliff & Shadows (THE top Euro RnR super-group of the 50s/60s) they were wearing such stage outfits with the slimties, winklepickers etc, as did many other bands, yet no-one would hear of "mods" until they came along a few years later.

They weren’t “mods" in your sense, it hadn’t been invented then !.

  • Re your quip about Colin’s “look”, I suggest the sideburns & quiff are hardly "mod" !!, the glasses are actually copying Colin's idol Hank Marvin, Colin's guitar is a Fender Strat as used by Hank & his hero James Burton (also NOT mods), his favourite year is 1961, he doesn’t need drugs, and his band are still playing classic ROCK & ROLL (NOT "mod") in what is recognised worldwide as THE best & MOST AUTHENTIC tribute band to the Shadows after 30 years.

SO sorry friend(?) but YOU are wrong.

  • @ps3matty Hi, I don't consider meself a fashion expert, are you ?. But I am someone who's been listening & dancing to authentic British rock & roll since the mid 70s, have friends in bands including two of the Rapiers here, have read MANY books & seen MORE films & documentaries on the subject. It’s my passion.

I see you’re just 24 (yes I'm jealous!), your grammar is appalling = you don't read a lot (no offence meant just stating a fact) & you clearly don‘t know much about real RnR culture.

  • @RockinRedRover The lead singer has an inch wide tie the side vented jacket which is defo 5 inches wide drain pie tayloured suit trousers aswell an ya tellin me that ain't mod. The others u got a point. Tho the only thing 50's on that lead singer is the Buddy Holly glasses nout els is my friend sorry -_-

  • Judging by lineup, young lads Brad D on bass and Dave Lawes on rhythm it looks late 80s so Brean it is I think. I do recall them playing there as a friend of mine was with Brad then.

  • WTF ?

Its not a MOD band, wrong clothing/hair styles and deffo wrong music. This is clearly late 50s/early 60s British rock n roll, check out early Cliff and the Shads on here for comparison.

  • I dont recognise the stage backcloth but if it is Brean then its the right size/shape etc for their "smaller" dancehall, they used to both large to be fair. Certainly the tables being raised up at the back was like Brean, a good feature I thought. We really liked that venue!. Dont think its Skeggy as the old Pavilion was a lighter/brighter place.

Whatever, great footage, MORE please !!
