Lomography is a method of photography. The term was invented by the Russian camera maker LOMO as a marketing tool who knocked out millions of very cheap but well resourced cameras in the 1960's onwards. My Cosmic 35 (at £3) was my first proper camera that required a seperate light meter and a good eye for the depth of field but had a fine lens so most pics came out well if you took care. The police kindly smashed it and destroyed the film in 1975 after it had given 8 years of faultless performance. This meant I moved onto SLR's and the world of lenses. I haven't used a film camera for 8 years now so the expense of developing and printing is not a factor and with my Fuji S5600 I can shoot almost endlessly as this video proves. Of course it was the price of developing and printing that made me very careful as a student not to waste film and get the most out of a roll of film which is the opposite approach to what LOMOgraphy stands for!!!!
In this instance of Just walking the dog - the location is a scuzzy bit of the riverbank where the Holiday Inn and Walkers Stadium stand and was once a the site of a mighty coal and oil fired power station. Broken fragments of this complex like a post nuclear ruin can still be spotted amongst the lush riverside vegetation. The camera was set on full zoom and natural light and I never looked at the camera screen resting on my gut but just pressed the button as I moved about while filming a TL on the video camera. There was up to a 6 second delay due to the camera trying to focus and sort the speed so I wasn't surprised when most of the shots were deletable but that's the nature of experimentation....
The music was chosen at random too - sorry - I bet that brings back some memories of the John Peel show for a few of you of a certain age.
King Learie is normal today.
