This tutorial will demonstrate how high strength tubes can be made cheaply and quickly.

These tubes work great for roman candles, rockets, fountains, ect They can also be made in any size or width desired depending on the paper and former used. The secret to the strengh of the tubes is the special glue mixture which is composed Iso-alcohol, water, and wood glue.

The purpose of the alcohol is to prevent wrinkles in the paper. These tubes tend to have a slight bend in them when they are half dry, to fix the bend take the tubes made 12 hours ago then bend the tubes back in place, the tubes then could be placed in an oven set at about 200 for 2 hours.

  • Awesome! Thank you, that was a fantastic tutorial and super simple. Can isopropyl alcohol be used or does it have to be something else?

  • @W4llyB4nger It can be any alcohol although I prefere not to use toxic denatured alcohol.

  • Very interesting. I'm disappointed in the new Elmer's white glue because it's too thick, while the previous formula was just right for case rolling undiluted. I haven't tried yellow wood glue, but I may do so soon to test out your concoction.

I've usually rolled with metal formers and extra glue as lubricant on the 1st turn, but I don't have many sizes of formers, and haven't been too successful with 1st turn dry or waxed dowel. Your fold method may be just the trick.

  • @goodmaro Tell me how it works out for you.

  • Nice work.

  • @AirrowRocket Thanks!

  • The music and you voice make it sound like a conspiracy theory video

  • Thank you for posting this video. I need to make different size cardboard tubes and your video is very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.

  • @IAmTheSkinMan By now I've sent you a message on your channel about this. I used your technique but not your mixture (yet). The technique is superior to what I'd been doing before; no more rush to get it off the former before the glue sticks, and product is at least equal. I drop the former over the near edge of the table to press the folded over part tightly to the former.

  • this will really help me, THX!

  • @IAmTheSkinMan Mostly I want to see how tightly it holds to the dowel when folded in like that.

I could kick myself for not thinking of pre-gluing one sheet to another like you. I have a roll of 30# virgin kraft that I'd like to double or quadruple for some uses.

How about for large diameter cases? I use a modified can technique for the inner container of cylindric shells instead of forming around an end plug. I make the end plugs after the can.
