Hurricane Irene hits Western Massachusetts

By the time Hurrican Irene hit New England it was downgraded to a Tropical Storm. Nevertheless, Irene caused massive damage to Vermont & Western Massachusetts. Here are some images of just a few of the towns affected: Shelburne Falls, Charlemont & Colrain.

thank you for posting this! We live on the other side and can't get through there and have been wondering what it was like. That is the route we use to go east on a weekly basis, now I understand why they estimate 2 years before it's passable again.

This is an amazing video. Our family has camped at the Mohawk State Park for over 48 years and we were devastated to think that we were never going to be able to camp there ever again. Please to say that we just made reservations for this summer. What an amazing job the State did on getting Rte 2 opened and the campground up and running in only 2 1/2 months. Love the Massachusetts song...downloaded it the moment I heard it. Thank you, snowlady76.

We went up there before the crews got around to closing the road. It got closed later that same day.
