On Friday June 12th 2009 at 06:53 UTC, i.e. 08:53 local time, the Liceo A. Bafile, located in LAquila, established a radio contact with ESA astronaut Frank De Winne, ON1DWN, onboard the International Space Station. A second contact between the school-tent and De Winne took place during the following pass, at 08:29 UTC, i.e. 10:29 local time. Due to former earthquake the station was set in a tent located in the ITIS Amedeo dAosta school garden. The students involved in the contact were from several schools from LAquila, including Amedeo DAosta high school and Duca Degli Abruzzi primary school.
