At the Flying Heritage Collection in Everett, WA. We got to see the P-47D Thunderbolt and the P-51D Mustang fly, here is their pre-flight.

The Thunderbolt has no problem starting up but the Mustang takes a little more warming up... (Fifth time's a charm, and the P-51 starts @ 4:45)

Sorry it's so long, I have yet to get a quality movie editor.

  • *-*

  • I'll trade a Mustang for a Jug any day.

  • It looks and sounds creepy when the P-47 starts up.

  • Wow I didn't realize that the P-47 was that much bigger than a Mustang.

  • I think the P-51 Mustang is drown in petrol so it takes lots of start up until working well.

  • Beautiful airplanes!!

  • @guitarguyf15 I know. Spits always had carbs to my knowledge. In their merlins anyway, dont know about the griffins. I just thought the story was the same with the 51.

  • @BikerRussell as Treetop has said, fuel injection has been around for a long time, mechanical fuel injection that is. Computerized fuel injection is a newer thing and many people associate the term 'fuel injection' with computer controlled electronic input. Not all fuel injected engines, such as the Merlin in this P-51 or a 12 valve cummins turbo diesel, for example, are computer controlled. Good old mechanical fuel pumps =]
