World Champion Whipcracker Ben Hughes demonstrates a whipcracking routine he created called the Messerschmitt. It was created based off of the idea of the WWII fighter planes where the bullets pass in between the propeller blades. This video was taken outside of our hotel in Claremore Oklahoma while Chris Camp "The Whip Guy" (www.thewhipguy.com) and I waited with Ben Hughes (www.bullwhipben.com) and his father Charlie for their ride to the airport, at the end of the 2006 Wild West Arts Club World Convention. This was right after Ben won 1st place in both the single and double handed whipcracking competition. He is an amazing whipcracker!

At the end of the video I put the routine in slow motion to hopefully better show how amazingly complex this routine is.

Regards,

PS - My favorite part, besides the amazing whipcracking, is Charlie at the end! They were both an absolute blast to hang out with, and Charlie especially cracked me up that entire week. Great people!

  • Why is'nt this guy on Australias got talent? The tricks he can do are amazing. He would win for sure.

  • @Thehanabul Ben is currently touring with "the horseman from snowy river" show in Australia for the next 12 months. His fellow Australian whipcracking champion Chris Beck has been on Australia's got talent and did an amazing job and made it through a few rounds. Videos of Chris Beck on AGT can be found on youtube.

  • cool ..is it true that the crack is caused by the tip breaking the sound barrier, and making a sonic boom?

sure i once heard something like that

  • Yes, that is correct. There is a nice video on youtube from the Discovery Channel show "Time Warp", where they used special cameras to slow the video down enough that you could actually "see" the sonic boom!

  • how long his whips?...

  • @deadwhip If I remember correctly they are 3 1/2ft stockwhips made by Russell Schultz

  • @midwestwhips Russell Schultz? I thought Ben only used Simon Martin's whips? Russell's are pretty good though... my mate Colin over here on the Sunny Coast has some of his.

I use Mick's Whips... been using his whips for near 20 years... and I'm only 24 myself :P
