In June 1917, 18 pupils from a school in Poplar died when Zeppelin bombers hit their school, in the first ever aerial bombardment of civilians.

  • Hello. I know you posted your message 4 months ago, but I thought I would let you know that my mum's sister was killed at Upper North Street in this incident.  Her name is also on the memorial in Poplar Park.

  • Thank you for this video. My grandmother's sister is one of the children who died in that bomb blast, her name is on the memorial. She was 5 yrs old.

  • There's an up-an-coming female footballer from Poplar that drew me to research this town...and I'm so glad I saw this video and am now further educated
