@daw162 do you play guitar?
-
@daw162 I think that when Gibson makes a few Signature guitars, and Dunlop makes a Fuzz Face pedal in your name - you are pretty much a guitarist of importance in many dimensions. Joe is a very gifted guitarist, and has heavily studied the techniques of other players. The ONLY thing that, for me, keeps him from truly being a "masses-approved" artist - I couldn't tell you from listening that it's Joe playing, but I can pick out Eric Johnson, Randy Rhoads, Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, etc.

this man is what you get when you throw eric clapton, eric johnson, jimmy page, bb king, and stevie ray vaughn in a blender
-
@daw162 You're saying he's not an accomplished guitarist? Really?...
-
Is that a regular sunburst? Or something else
-
in my opinion it's people like you that keep the blues from progressing organically, you'd be more at home listening to recycled Clapton/SRV licks than ever having to hear someone inject some new life in a genre rapidly becoming stale.

@daw162 you can't possibly be a musician...at least not a good one. The guy was playing with Clapton when he was 12 years old. Since when did difficulty become the determining factor of talent? If you don't like his music or style that's one thing but he is without a doubt one of the most talented guitarists out there today. If you're going off of a PBS show you should look a little deeper before spouting off like you know everything about the guy.

@daw162 - WTF ?? - nothing 'special" or 'difficult ?? - put your money where your mouth is, - mr, exprrt, -
let's see your video, - by the way, - have you played the royal albert hall lately, - ok, sit down, n STFUp
-
I would have to agree with that last comment from guitar instructor .. I would put Joe right up there with Eric Johnson , Greg Koch , for sure one of the top instructors in the world
-
@daw162 man, you really need to do some more research...
I never saw this guy until last week, he was on PBS. I guess he reminds me a lot of people PBS promotes. There's something charismatic, maybe, and an ability to make it seem like you're doing something harder than you are - so to non-musicians or people who just don't "get it" as musicians, there's something extra special going on.
But compare him to an accomplished guitarist, and there's nothing special/difficult or unique about what he does.

@daw162 ... We're going to have to respectfully differ on this one. Bonamassa is the most technically proficient blues-rock guitarist since, well, almost ever. I understand that his music, because of its technical nature, doesn't speak to masses like Clapton or Page, but in terms of what he plays and how he plays it, few can match his ability.
