You can hear on the first demo for "Very Ape" how one of the versions is "I think I'm tired of being human / I wonder what I'm gonna do about that / [something] thought a lot about ending it / [something] no, no." Eventually the song becomes anthemic refutation of his role as "being human." He doesn't want to be in his position anymore. That's what the album is about, sometimes. "In Utero" is his retirement apology
