7:56.-Beethoven was the undisputed champion of the "variated recapitulation".This one has no equal in all music history. The left hand is God,the right hand a desperate human, with tears in his eyes.

When was this recorded? It's so much different from Richter's 1964 Carnegie performance.
Moving.
Thank you.

@smalltalkingchicken Well, I've been looking for it but I couldn't tell for sure. There's a digital licence on the CD (given to me with no booklet) that indicates it's played by Richter, but nothing more. According to me, it's probably from his 1975 tour - remastered, obviously. Maybe the Prague performance... although the tempo seems quite more introspective.

Could you please comment on the photo? Is this post war Berlin or Stalingrad? And what's on the ground that the kids are dancing around? Thanks!

@rtisom Hello. It's post war Stalingrad. A statue showing kids dancing around a crocodile. Became a symbol of hope face to war and desolation for having been the only monument in the city to stay up in spite of german bombing. The statue was built in 1933 ; the picture shot in 1942 ; the statue finally destroyed in 1948.
