Here is an update video to the first post of my 1955 RCA record player attachment, model 6-JM-1. Here you see the player mechanism, and the new retrofitted stereo cartridge that I have crudely installed on the tone arm. It originally came with a 'crystal' type cartridge, which was long dead. I only have the left channel hooked up for this video, and I recorded the audio straight into the input jack on the back of my iMac, using a vintage 80s Realistic preamp from Radio Shack, Model SA-150. I set the audio output switch on the preamp to 'stereo' to simulate what it will sound like when the cartridge is properly installed, with new wiring. There is an audible 'thumping' noise due to the worn idler wheel, which will need to be replaced. I made this video using my Sanyo Xacti CG6 and rendered it using iMovie. The video was shot seperately (my camera has no audio inputs) and the sound was recorded on a second playing into my iMac. I recorded the track as a voiceover and synched it up with the existing video. The lead out grooves went a little longer on the second play (sound recording) before tripping the shut-off mechanism which explains the out of synch video ending. Enjoy!

  • I wonder how old this record is.

  • I believe it is close to the original issue date, I got it from my mother's storage back home, it had been stepped on and covered in mold from being stored in a shed outside the house. It also has some severe cracks on the outer rim. Thanks for your comment!

  • I like the record too!

What is this song called (I can't see it)

    Thank You! :)

  • Thx- the record is "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck" by Elvis Presley and the Jordanaires.

  • Sounds pretty damn good to me with that old original 45! five *****'s. Say, something looks mighty familiar there at 2:28? What on earth could that be...

  • Hmmm.... I wonder- you can chalk it up to good taste :-)

  • That 45 RPM record looks to beat up. I wouldn't play it, it could damage the needle.

  • i have that same 45 :D

  • When I find 45's that look like that, they sound like crap, am in shock that how good it still sounds, sometimes vinyl was made to take abuse.

  • wow lol

  • Never seen one of those decks before.

  • @frangiul13 The "Lowrider" carts appear commonly in modern art deco stereo systems by companies like Crosley.

  • loved the way these old 50`s and 60`s units used a copper chassis. when they`re all shined up they look sexy.

  • @puupydoger came out in 1958 if you didn't know already.

  • @xmvirus202 Ok That's Understandable, It Is Still Possible To Pick The Originals Up From Time To Time But They Are Not Free Flowing Anymore. I Have 2 Old Record Players WithThe Original Cartridges Still In Good Working Order Which Is Lucky I Guess Considering They Are Nearly 50 Years Old. There Is Quite A Few Listed In The U.S On E-Bay.com That Would Probably Be Suitable?

  • good fidelity
