I'm not a lyrics person, so I just enjoyed the melody freely the first few times I heard this song. I was kind of stunned when I did listen to the words for the first time. It is so raw, beautiful, and sad that I cry each time I hear it. I know of no other more genuine and powerful song than Casimir Pulaski Day.

I love this... It's so lonely and it calls for sympathy. i disagree with the people who are saying that they think he's doubting his religion, or blaming God. This sounds more like hesitant acceptance, sort of a soft pain.

Absolutely--it's a story: he doubts...then he accepts. You have to keep listening even if you disagree at first.

I just mean that its not Gods fault if someone dies. And I'm not religious
