@maswellasm well, Kiara's already an incest cub, i think it runs in the family either way.
But the mere fact that it came up in early story makes it obvious the incest references were intentional. (Quick quiz - how many males were there making babies in the pride besides mufasa around Nala's birth? q2: Don't lions kill rival offspring if they get born into the same pride?
Come on.)

I always got the feeling that this movie "doth protesteth too much" about Kovu not being Scar's son. I think this scene would have truly made it one time too many, which is saying a lot given the final version already beat us over the head with it over and over again. "In case you're wondering, audience, Kovu is NOT Scar's son. No relation, whatsoever. Okay? We'll remind you again in ten minutes!"
