One of my Goodman favorites--I remember seeing this televised in 1985 and wished I had taped it--wonderful now to relive how excellent this band and Goodman sounded. I don't think that many of the kids today will ever realize just how incredibly talented musicians like Goodman or Bob Haggart (on bass here) or Louie Bellson (on drums here) were. I didn't see Sinatra in the crowd as mentioned, but he did appear on the show to say a few words about working with Goodman at the Paramount. Thanks!!

@artcramer Was quite a star studded event, with a lot of guest hosts including Sinatra. Just looks remarkably like him.

No, don't think so at all. Can see why you might thnk that though. Wound't that be some table to sit with a beer after the gig, Benny Goodman and George Burns talking to them about an earlier time?

Is that George Burns at 0:12 in the background?

This is REAL music.

Yes . . . we can't forget that Fletcher Henderson is the more influential figure, the uncrowned king of swing
-
I saw the Duke Ellington Orchestra play in Hong Kong and the way the songs were structured with the leader pointing at the soloists, and that was pressured enough. Imagine if Benny Goodman, THE king of swing was your band leader.

The late LOUIE Bellson on drums , this was one of Benny's last T V APP.
The tenor player is Ken Peplowski. Isn't he fantastic!! Huge, swinging tone!
