"I can only look at the evidence given to me and decide as well as you. You say no, I say yes."

    Now this is interesting.

We both have the same evidence available to us yet you say Jesus did exist (I assume that you also believe that the bible stories about him are also true - please correct me if I am wrong)

However you fail to exercise the SAME STANDARD of critical thinking that you would in other areas. Why do you believe in the resurrection but not that the world came from Vishnu's navel?

I messed up my last sentence. What I meant to say is that what if I said Nero did not exist what would you think.

Im guessing it would not matter to you... and if Jesus did or did not exist does not matter to you...

and you can believe that he did not... I can believe that he did... you cannot prove he did not... I cannot prove he did. I can only look at the evidence given to me and decide as well as you. You say no, I say yes

I can say yes, you can say no.

The argument that 3 billion people can't all be wrong, is flawed.

    1. Most Christians are not even aware of the facts (the Documentary Hypothesis, failure of the Defence of Free Will, Jesus as Greek Myth Explanation...).

    2. Even if people are aware of the facts, many would still chose to ignore them as they get some emotional support. We all know smoking and alcohol is bad yet many still indulge.

It does not matter if Nero existed or not, my whole world view is not based on his resurrection.

I dont know of the Empty Tomb series. However with over 3 billion christian churches around the world it seems like some one believes that Jesus existed. Likewise Mohammed existed too as well as Budda no disputing those guys. Even Santa was ST Nick in Germany. Why would these people in Nero's time believe in someone who did not exist and now 2000 years later there are 3 billion congregations of people who believe in him. That would puzzle me? If you Nero did not exist what would you think?

As Emperor, Nero persecuted Christians - that is recorded in multiple independent contemporaneous sources (e.g. Tacitus, Suetonius, and Cassius Dio).

However Nero wasn't born until 37 CE. All this proves is that Christians were a recognisable religious cult by the time of Nero's reign as Roman Emperor from 54 to 68 CE. This is far from evidence that Jesus actually existed - biblical or otherwise.

What do you think of "The Empty Tomb" series?

didn't Nero speak of a group of crazy jews that followed a superstition of following a guy who rose from the dead?

Dont avoid the person, ask him yourself to prove himself. He will.

There are no contemporaneous Greek or Roman texts - none. The earliest ones simple repeat what Christians had been telling them for decades.

As for Jesus being a total fabrication, the case is a fairly good one - even if it is not provable. "The Empty Tomb" series makes a compelling case don't you think?

Dating from ca 248 CE, the hypothesis that Jesus as Greek myth has been around a long time and must at least be considered.
