This is an old Leadbelly song that I learned from a Lonnie Donegan recording in the mid 1950s. The lyrics are quite suggestive and as a result the song was banned from the radio in Britain at the time. In fact, one verse from Donegan's recording even crossed my threshold of tolerance so it is not included in this rendition. I love playing this song and do so quite regularly when I play in public.
You're the greatest.. can you teach me to play? I can't sing though :(

I always enjoy hearing you do this one, Lew.

This is great, both in itself and because it got me to look up the Lonnie Donegan version to hear the missing verse.

Another great performance, thank you. Battle of New Orleans was also banned by the BBC & withdrawn from sale until he re-recorded it with a phrase change from, bloody British to ruddy British, future recording & live performances generally used blooming British but 15 or so years ago I saw him performing on live tv the British were on where to be seen & he had been reduced to blooming rebels, politics I expect

I like this song too. For a while, it was the song in my repertoire that my peers requested the most. I love hearin' you play it.
