Berkeley Playhouse will roll out the red carpet for its first annual Tony Award Party on June 13, 2010. The Playhouse will broadcast on the big screen the American Theatre Wings 64th Annual Antoinette Perry Tony® Awards, which honor theatre professionals and distinguished achievement on Broadway.
This free, family-friendly event will be hosted by Broadway star Sharon McNight, who received a Tony nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Diva in Starmites, Best Musical nominee.
Her electrifying performance on the 1989 telecast of the Tonys thrust her onto the national stage, and since then, she has enjoyed a career as a much sought-after cabaret performer, and recording artist. Her one-woman shows Red Hot Mama and The Sophie Tucker Songbook have been acclaimed by critics on both coasts. She has also been widely recognized as a warrior in the fight against HIV/AIDS, and was even featured in the Randy Shilts book And The Band Played On.
Pre-show entertainment will begin at 7:00pm. Food and drinks will be available for sale, and an exciting raffle will benefit TheatreReach, the Berkeley Playhouse educational outreach program. Theatre-related activities for youth and children will be held in the Centers studios, and Ms. McNight will perform throughout breaks in the broadcast.
Tickets are free, but limited so reserve online today!
