Ah, this brings me back. When I first saw this I knew there was something more sinister from what they aired instead of the usual Giant Robot escapade. When they showed Rei struggling on the stretcher and Shinji reluctantly taking the helm, I saw that there was something special to this Show.

Thank you Toonami for opening up me and hopefully others to the joys and horrors that is Evangelion

Nope it definantely is not. Then again not all manga or anime is for kids. If you want to introduce your kids to great japanese animation. I would suggest introducing them to the films of studio ghibli like: My Neighbour Totoro and Castle in the sky.
