  • HI, I just recently put up a vlog about c.i. check it out... its here in youtube.. sn is chillipepper37.. tell me what ya think? I sure would be intrested in your thoughts.

  • OK: reading some of the text below makes me happy that my son has an implant. He will be able to sign in ASL AND he will be able to communicate (read, write, whatever) in the English language. Some of the text here is illiterate.

  • I've got a cochlear implant since I was 6 years old. I grew up having absolutely no problem with it! It does me wonders! It's amazing.

But..the choice to have a CI or not is up to everyone...

  • I'm studying to get a degree in Deaf Education and it is true, CI does not work for everybody, and I believe getting CI is a personal choice, being Deaf is not a negative mark against anybody.

I work at a school program for deaf/hh kids as a teacher aide, most have hearing aids or cochlear implants but regardless what is important is making sure they get access to language, spoken or signed

  • i can hear, so...watching this video makes me feel deaf because i have no idea what you are saying.

  • (part 2) avg. Deaf child of Deaf parents scores on IQ test higher than hearing child of the same age, even though the test was designed for and by hearing ppl and including English vocabularies that is hearing's native language; ASL has some advantage over spoken language, especially description and storytelling; and safer at driving. So, why don't hearing child gets their ears lobotomized? That's why there should be law baning on CI! Law is designed by and for hearing ppl, anyway.

  • I agree! They should have law to ban forcing deaf children to have CI. I got a letter advertising about CI. I didn't ask for it and it insulted me and my dignity. Researchers found that 90% of Deaf ppl dream in color and 50 or 60% of hearing ppl dream in black & white; avg. Deaf ppl have far better periphereal vision; (part one)

  • So I'd like to know: when is the last time you were able to have a verbal conversation with a person who was born Deaf and later got a CI?? Hm? I know MANY CId Deaf people and those who I know cannot distinguish words to understand. Many are also not understandable. One Deaf friend I have speaks SO well. She does not even use hearing aides! What does that tell you?

  • To say "CIs work for the Deaf" is like saying "glasses work for the blind"...eh, not really, not always. Do your research!! Most people are Deaf because they have damaged hair in the ear which transmits the audio info to nerves. CIs by pass the hair and go directly to the nerve. If a person is deaf because of damaged nerves, this will not help at all. Be careful with generalized comments.

  • A child implanted at one or two years old, can mainstream by K ir 1st grade with little or no developmental delays. If an adult doesn't want an implant, that's fine for them. With the attitude some ASL members have, it would be a waste of time in any event. Save them for the right people. Just please don't deny others of what they should have been born with in the first place. They should be implanted as soon as possible.
