Singer, songwriter, and producer Cody Chesnutt's music isn't just limited to soul and R & B. He's been influenced by the older music styles ranging from the church to soul, yet he grow up listening to hip-hop and rock music. Cody broke out on the scene in 2002 with his monumental debut "The Headphone Masterpiece." The entire double cd was recorded in his bedroom on a four-track recorder while he played all of the instruments. The cd was critically-acclaimed and was hailed as one of the top recordings by magazines like Vibe, Rolling Stone, and Spin.

The Atlanta, Georgia native made noise in 2003 when the group The Roots recorded his song "The Seed" from their Phrenology recording. Both he and The Roots re-recorded the song and entitled it "The Seed 2.0" in which also played guitar, sang, and appeared in the music video.

Cody also appeared comedian Dave Chappelle's 2004 movie "Block Party" and his song "You Look Good in Leather" appeared in the Axe Deodorant commercial.

He's back and about to release his latest EP "Black Skin/No Value" as well as release his full length disc "Landing on a Hundred" later this fall. You can download Cody's latest single "Come Back Like Spring" for free at codychesnutt.bandcamp.com/

This was the first time performing in New York City in four years and Cody's extremely excited about recording and performing the material to his fans. His latest 10 piece band is bringing back the classic soul elements to soul music and is an extremely family oriented show for everyone.

  • brother, thank you very much for bringing about one of the most honest and important interviews i've ever seen and for even hearing the maturity that cody chesnutt is bringing through his music now

  • The Headphone Masterpiece dropped in 2002, not 2004, and Cody actually has sporadically recorded and released songs since then... Great to see him coming back in full force, though!

    Thank You.

I learned, "Just because I was alive, it didn't mean I was living..."

His music and words blaze a path, that I strive to follow.

    Peace, blessings, and positivity.

It was definitely a spiritual music experience for me as well.
