The world is urbanizing fast and our society is losing its direct connection with the natural and rural landscape. We therefore must become more efficient in developing novel frameworks of urban self-sufficiency.
Our goal is to develop a new renewable bio-energy infrastructure within London's East End and to correlate the increase in local biodiversity with community development.
Our approach combines design sensibility towards the context, use of cutting edge digital technologies and knowledge of urban biodiversity.
Our potential for innovation is in the use of digital design and media technology to create new urban interfaces; these are engineered to promote the evolution of local business oriented towards the production of renewable bioenergy.
The first prototypical interface is a moving laboratory to monitor the hotspots of TechCity for the potential implementation of an algae farming bioenergy infrastructure.
East London's old canals, ponds and reservoirs network offer an invaluable resource that could be redeveloped as an algae framing bioenergy network.
An online interface will connect the monitoring stations and the new emergent biofuel farms producing a real time and open source map of potential algae farming, energy yield, Co2 adsorption and the related local community and business development.
The monitoring station will be commercialized as self-contained travelling unit, and could be rented to interested boroughs as part of their environmental and social monitoring equipment
The online platform will follow the model of social networks such as Facebook and monitoring hubs such as Pachube. It's uniqueness as a social network is its focus on ecological processes, local bioenergy production and related business opportunities.
Investing in East London Algae farming will allow the necessary engineering of our prototypes for testing within the urban environment. It will furthermore support the development of proof of concept version of the network based digital interface.
In addition, it will encourage partnerships and joint ventures necessary to develop and commercialize the innovation outside the boundaries of the creative and design industry, where ecoLogicStudio is already a recognized innovator.
