It was actually just a bit of trial and error, making do with what I had on hand. Just laid an old bi-fold door panel against my bench, took a piece of plywood to use as a weight, etc. Ended up being too light, glued some bolts onto it to add more weight. Just adjusted the wire temp with the dimmer switch to what I felt was a good cutting speed that also gave good results.

Works pretty slick, I use it quite often making skins for panels on some of my models.

You could just use an AC train transformer and it would eliminate the need for the dimmer and you might alrady have one lying around the house.
