Sergei, my Dark Melee/Super Reflexes scrapper in City of Heroes, beating an archvillain and 15 of his friends without using inspirations, temporary powers, veteran powers, base empowerment buffs or click accolades.

Since I'd already beaten Manticore, I decided to have some fun. So I charged him, the five lieutenants, the boss, and a bunch of minions. Took out everything but the lieutenants, then started beating on Manticore. It went just fine, no real challenges.

So I stepped it up a bit. I charged the whole group and fought the AV while the rest of them beat on me. The first shot that way was a total failure, But BOY was it fun! I had him down to about 1/3. Then I got hit with a Hasten crash right before Conserve Power recharged, and I detoggled and went down. My mistake. So far, that's the only time that's happened to me. I tried running and toggling, but with all that ranged damage, it was hopeless. I knew I could pull it off, though, even if it might take a few tries. I spent what seemed like an entire minute bouncing between blinking red and orange, my healing just balanced with their damage. I think all the bubbling from the Fake Nemesis caused trouble at one point, but it wasn't too bad.

It was amusing how much more fun I had with the failure than the success.

Actually, it felt a lot like fighting against the odds with a Regen. Health constantly hitting the red, nail biting focus, and then a glorious death. I love Regen. Even when I die, I love it. It was nice to know I can achieve that same level of fun on a Super Reflexes.

It took a couple more tries, but I finally beat Manticore Automaton while surrounded by fifteen other level 52 enemies beating on me -- a Fake Nemesis, five Lieutenants, eight Jaegers, and I think a Hussar. One under the aggro limit, unfortunately. It was all I could pull, and I even ran off the platform and into the crowd in case I could pull more. There was a whole lot of damage, and I didn't spend a lot of time fully green. Fortunately, I didn't spend a lot of time badly hurt either. One of the toughest parts of the fight was actually after I'd finished off everything but the Lieutenants. Ideal, of course, is to kill them all at the same time with AoE. Since I'm no good in the AoE department, I tried spreading my attacks out. It went OK, but not perfectly, and they were really nailing me. I pulled through, though. It was fun.

  • You sir, are insane. An inspiration, but definitely not right in the head.
