its about a Irish resistane member warning a British soldier not to go out because his patrol will be abushed, and that he's done his duty and thats enough and too go home before he dies
This song is about the IRA and their fight with the British. A heartfull sad song about the reality of the battle. Elvis is simply saying "is it worth it"
I like Evlis Costello, but I can't understand half the shit that is coming out of his mouth here, mostly due to the sound quality on the video. I was told that this is a sad song, but I can't cry unless I can understand the lyrics. I don't want wny
I first eard this in the old National Stadium on the SCR back in 85/86. It was the day of a rugby international and we gave the English a good hiding. Elvis dedicated 'Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down" to the well-fancied English side. Biggest cheer of the night.
I had no idea this was about his grandfather's service. I always felt this struck a cord with my dad leaving Ireland to join the RAFs.

Interesting lineup behind Elvis - recognise Donal Lunny far left of screen but wonder who the others were

One of my fave EC songs, and a very touching one at that.
