its about a Irish resistane member warning a British soldier not to go out because his patrol will be abushed, and that he's done his duty and thats enough and too go home before he dies

This song is about the IRA and their fight with the British. A heartfull sad song about the reality of the battle. Elvis is simply saying "is it worth it"

I first eard this in the old National Stadium on the SCR back in 85/86. It was the day of a rugby international and we gave the English a good hiding. Elvis dedicated 'Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down" to the well-fancied English side. Biggest cheer of the night.
