An old Welsh folk song sung by Richard Griffith to a collection of Victorian Photographs of North Wales. The song intends to portray a sense of Hiraeth, or longing, for the homeland on the part of expatriate Welsh.

  • mae hwn yn da!

  • Diolch!

  • from one dysgwr to another. Pob lwc efo'r iath.

  • Diolch yn fawr! Also, my study of Welsh comprises texts from the 19th century, not the 20th as I implied in my last message. My how time flies!

  • @griffcats griff check out my upload of 'Unwaith eto'n Nghymru Annwyl' i hope you think the last 1min 30 is truly epic by treorci choir .... I feel bad uploading others work but we have to spread this great song as so much culture is being lost in real life. Full respect for singing yourself I am not that brave yet lol

  • @3tangle3 yes, the Treorci version is fantastic. The soloist sounds familiar, but like many fine soloists in Welsh choirs, he is not identified. I hadnt listened to my recording in quite a while, and now it doesnt sound quite as I thought it did (maybe after hearing the real muscians do it!). The piano is harsh in my recording, and the voice is distorted somewhat. Since Ive gotten a new (real) piano, and maybe should try this again lol. And as to comments below, I wish Id gone to Eton!

  • @griffcats to reiliterate...your singing is good but its only natural to want to sing in different styles eventually part of experimenting...keep up the work :)

  • @griffcats why eton? these were the toffs who look down on the welsh culture.....my family were good singers competing in competition but were simple farmers hah...not really simple, ruthlessly cunning in ways of business as cardiganshire folk are :S ;P

  • This is a bit like Unwaith "Eton" Nghymru annwyl, as the singer has an Etonian accent!

  • Dear Brideshead81,

I have it right here: which texts?

  • Diolch!

  • Does anyone know the lyrics in english please I need them for a funeral. Many thanks.
