During the GOP debate last week, Tommy Thompson said that employers should have the right to fire workers just for being gay. One day later, when HBO Real Time host Bill Maher called him on it, Thompson said he lost his hearing aide.

  • I don't have enough characters to fully speak.

*they* doesn't mean gays, it means businesses. Gays are not involved in this arguement. They're being maligned by singling them out and having this conversation.

  • Silly question that doesn't apply to the point of my statement. The protection from failure can easily be illustrated in the Airlines bailout after 9/11. If people cannot trust any sort of business, then they won't patron them and those businesses fail. They should've thought ahead and planned for hijackings. Government should not interfere with people's private lives unless they have harmed another person in some way. Gays have nothing to do with this.

  • How does being able to fire gays protect their corporation from failure?

  • I agree with him, The Federal Government should have no right to decide wether a business should be allowed to fire a gay worker, I dont agree with it at all, but a business has the right to fire a worker for anything, Its there business, If someone feels like firing you because there bored, they can do it, cruel, and unpatriotic, I may not surrport it, doesnt mean big companys shouldnt be allowed to fire someone over something.

  • Save the Republic, Save the world...

    Ron Paul 2008!

  • I think they should be able to have whatever business they want. No matter what they think. We the people should not have a say in any American businesses' affairs. That is if they relenquish the 'corporation' priviledge that currently protects them from failure. One hand washes the other. How about neither washes anything and everyone be responsible for whatever blowback they deserve.

  • Do you believe gays should be able to be fired for that reason only or do you believe that the central government should not be able to make that law or both?

  • Honestly, the Federal Government has no place mandating what a business can and cannot do. That is unforgivable. State government can do that, but not the FEDS. I'm no supporter of Tommy, he went against his words later that night on an interview. That's deplorable. However, his initial response was the correct answer in reality.

  • This guys plan for Iraq is the best I have heard from any candidate, blue or red. His idea, as expressed on Mahrs show, is to let the Iraquis vote on whether we stay or leave. Why, exactly, is this idea not more popular? It seems like an obvious solution to me. (Just have to be sure not to let the neoncons steal it so they stay!)
