@WhomTheGodsDetest I feel you though. My friend the jazz sax player is also the metal guitarist. Some cats like things busier. I'm all about the groove. Even Phish jams too much for me. I jammed in the 90's acid, outer space. Now I like earth. I dunno

@phishinvan I just love the funky numbers. Frank Zappa shit. Limb by Lmb? That must be a later Phish cut, latin jazz independence. Crazy. So hard to play. I took All Things Reconsidered to a pro and he couldn't touch that beat. I was able to play it at one time, but nothing sounds cooler than the way Fishman had his set tuned in the 90's.

@WhomTheGodsDetest I never knew I was supposed to know anything about metal drums, but riddle me this.. what about the hi-hat? I can do Bonham style rolls without using 2 bass drums, but I think your first clue back to the groove would be the hi-hat. I saw very few drummers who tastefully funk it up with 2 bass drums. I actually met Fish years back, I think in 98-99 at Toad's Place in New Haven and was able to have about a 30-45 minute conversation with him about drumming. SUPER cool guy.....I brought up to him lessons and asked if he has ever taught anyone, and his words almost verbatim were "I would never teach someone strictly because more than half the things I do, I'm cheating on, and wouldn't know where to begin on teaching it to someone" funny stuff!! Another crazy timing song for Fish: Taste....
