But why would they kill it, it's basically just a rebadged Chevrolet so it's next to no cost to them to keep it, and it just gets them more customers. So why the heck not?

Im a big GM fan, but this is such a delusional explanation. One of the clearest defined brands?! Most average joes refer to GM as GMC. There is very little definition untill recently. All GMC has been was a different grille and some trim on a Chevy. I understand the profit margins, and how easily they are made with GMC, but come on...
