A doctor, with two first names, who gets tons of loyal support on the internet, but who turns out to be a little too loony to actually get nominated.

But enough about Howard Dean.

Here's a little diatribe about Libertarianism.

Libertarianism is a naive and inhumane philosophy that works only in fairy tales and make believe - it does not work anywhere in the real world.

They hold many terrible principles that sound good in theory, but fall over in practice.

Like the individual's right to do whatever they want, so long as they don't infringe on anyone else's rights. Sounds good until you look at the real world consequences.

Libertarians think that as an adult you have the right to take whatever drugs you want. So they want to legalize all narcotics. So in their world, cocaine, heroin, crack, meth, everything would be legal, and available in stores.

They also want everyone to have the right to bear arms - if someone wants to buy a machine gun and carry it around, they can.

Not sure you'd feel safe in that sort of society? Then buy yourself a grenade launcher and carry that around instead.

Plus there'd be no laws to stop you or anyone else from putting land mines or rocket launchers in their front yard. It is, after all, your right to protect your property.

Taste the Freedom!

By the way, if you want to have fun with a Libertarian, ask them if every American should have the right to have land mines and rocket launchers on their property. It's a simple question, but just watch them try to avoid answering it!

Libertarians would also get rid of Medicare and Medicaid. If someone can't afford to get medical treatment, then they have the freedom to stay sick, and the freedom to die.

Libertarians also believe in abolishing the income tax and the estate tax, which is great for millionaires with high incomes and spoilt brats who inherited their wealth, not so great for everyone else. Just what America needs - more wealth inequality.

They would also enable corporate fascism by granting the freedom to conduct business without accountability through those pesky government regulations, like worker's safety laws, product safety laws, consumer protection laws, or the minimum wage.

No Security and Exchange Commission either, because Libertarians believe insider trading is perfectly legal.

Oh, and segregation would be legal too. It is, after all, the business owner's right to refuse service and employment to black people.

So in Libertopia, you'd have crack whores that are sick and armed to the teeth. And it would be perfectly legal. Sounds great!
