In this video, the heart is explored with acknowledgment of both its beauty, fluidity and precious nature. The clip is taken from The Integral Anatomy Series, Vol. 4: Viscera and their Fasciae, available at http://www.gilhedley.com along with other interesting articles, links, etc. This clip is offered with appreciation and respect for donors and their families. If you have ever considered making an anatomical gift yourself (far in the future!), contact your local medical university donor program now. We all are the beneficiaries of these programs, perhaps without realizing it! Thank you for watching and appreciating this great gift.

  • The light colouration of the tissue looks different than the darker muscle we can see on the main body. Well, you can see some of that pinky-red actually in the heart beneath it... that lighter pale fleshy colour, is that fat? It looks like the texture of fat based on what I've seen in cutouts or even just in meat.

Is that amount of fat around a heart normal or is this possibly someone who had too much of it prior to death? I am not sure how much fat in the tissue between organs is normal.

  • @tyciol It is normal for there to be fat around the human heart, even in a lean person. Fatty connective tissues have endocrinal, lymphatic and metabolic functions which are important to normal health and wellness~~the idea of "no fat" may play well at the supermarket, but with regard to our bodies, fat belongs there, and what you see is quite typical. Thank you for watching and commenting!!

  • It's all just one mathematical equation :P. I think.

  • @Shalek :-) "Phi" is definitely an operator here :-)

  • what is the large darker pink colored below the heart?

  • That is the liver, which to the right of the image remains partly covered by remnants of the respiratory diaphragm. Thank you for watching!

  • You inspired this poem in me.... This heart Is a spiraling Aspiring dervish Directing the waters With the warmth Of constant love And unfathomable commitment Do you feel the waltz inside? Asking for this chance To couple With how the world Moves you.
  • I find the human body to be absoultely facinating. The heart looks all squishy and pretty. Thank you for your videos and I hope you post more.

  • nice, dude
