Some government regulations that are made with good intentions still lead to bad results. The Endangered Species Act is a good example of such a law. In this video, economics professor Don Boudreaux examines the Endangered Species Act, and uses it to explain how policymakers' good intentions sometimes go awry. While the law intends to preserve threatened animals, it actually has the effect of giving landowners strong reasons to kill any endangered species they find on their property. This phenomenon is known as "shoot, shovel, and shut up." Boudreaux implores us not to judge a policy by its intentions, but by its results. We can't assume a policy will be good just because the intentions of the policymakers are good.

Learnliberty makes me laugh, Lets focus on the negatives shall we? Corporate profit is more important than some animal becoming extinct, right? It really doesn't matter soon all animals that survive humans will end up in zoos and that is a FACT.

so if Earth turns out to be under the ownership of a extra-planetary alien, are you saying that alien have every right to kill off humanity because it happens to be on his private property?

Yeah, screw the animals that have made their habitat in that land for Hundreds of years. It's owned by a human, and they should expect to be killed because they aren't important anyway.

"Shoot shovel & shut up"--yes! I couldn't agree more with it. If that what a landowner has to do in order to be able to do on THEIR OWN FREAKING LAND what they please, so be it. Screw the environmentalists wackos telling land owners what to do on their own property (so long as they're not dumping sewage into a river that's "common" to everybody). A land owner's supposed to be limited with regards to their own land because some animal lives there that's on some list they could give a fig about?

You have some points but you are missing a great deal of what the negative effects of this act are. It has been used as weapon and when those wielding their righteous sword run out of businesses to attack they turn on the average citizen. Cave Gates, Fact or Fiction is a paper I wrote a few years ago on the ESA, bats and the ever growing industry related to protecting bats. Be happy to send you a copy if you message me your email:)
