It is HARAM to wear make up, in front of non-mahram (non family related) people:
Quran 24:31:
"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should NOT display their beauty and ornaments except what appears natural, and not display their beauty except to family related members.
Therefore, wearing make up to NON family members, is haram in Islam.

@burntbronz why is it that every thing that a black person does has to be a form of self hate or as a result of brainwashing. Islam is for everyone despite their colour in fact many black slaves were released from slavery into freedom by the messenger (s.a.w) mohammed. IN islam there everyone is equal like the teeth of comb no arab is better than a non arab and a non arab is not better than a arab. other racist "muslims" r ignorant ppl not representative

why cant black women have self esteem without converting to this... or changing to that....we dont need some one else's religion to make us whole...stick with the religion of you grans and great grands please,Islam was introduced into Africa through Invasion and war...

@itcrowdfan92...interesting. I respect your opinion and point of view, but in my point of view, I dont really see how makeup can dictate wether a person is good or bad, or is not religious enough or whatever. Makeup is simply a form of expression, a way for women to feel beautiful, no matter how beautiful she already is without it. In my humble opinion, God will judge you by what you do, not what you wear or what you look like (although I do believe that dressing modestly will benefit you)

@yanfeb15, because majority of Muslim women don't know their religion, when it comes to this matter. Those Muslim women who do wear it & come to know it's not allowed to be worn for non family members tend to say "it is allowed," without giving an Islamic authentic text, because the prohibition is not want they want to hear or do. It shouldn't a Muslim, as this is a minor sign of judgment day. Its even prohibited in the Bible (1 Timothy 2:9-10). Majority Christians do it b/c they been influenced

I'm curious....What's "wudu" ? Why don't you wear nail polish?
mochamika 2 years ago
Wudu means purification. it is what we do before prayer. Washing certain body parts to become purified before we pray. We do not wear nail polish because we must be completely clean before prayer and if we wear nail polish, our nails cannot get completely clean.
