CBS News' Peter Maer, Jim McGlinchy, Mark Knoller and Bill Plante share their favorite moments covering the late Ronald Reagan as Americans soon celebrate his 100th birthday.
@emantabrizi Electoral votes does matter, because he was the best president to have the most of than any other president in history. It's not outrageous,I didn't say he won the most electoral votes I said before that he won the most electoral votes than any other president that had been elected with votes.
@3dartistguy ... Social spending? So, you'd like to see us cut social security, medicare, and medicaid completely? Where do the cuts end? Job creation might have grown under Kennedy and Reagan, but so did the annual deficit. What "explosive rate of growth" are you referring to? Obama inherited a $1.416 trillion deficit. The projected deficit for this year is...wait for it...$1.480 trillion. What an explosion!
Did it ever occur to you that the reason why the deficit keeps going up is beause of all the needless social spending? When they cut taxes in the 1960s under Kennedy's tax plan, job creation grew, as it did under Ronald Reagan as well! How do you explain the explosive rate of growth of the deficit since Obama took office? We don't need and can't afford a high speed rail system. It will not create jobs. Again, they are creating more unemployment in the military and at NASA...needlessly.
@3dartistguy ... When Kennedy and Reagan took office, they could AFFORD to talk about a well-funded military and space agency because taxes were considerably higher than what they are now. In 1960, the highest tax rate was 91%. In 1980, the highest tax rate was 70%. Do you know what it is now? It's 35%. That's it. No wonder our annual budget deficit keeps growing. Thank you, Ronald Reagan.
YES, SO MUCH FOR BEING A DIFFERENT KIND OF SPENDOCRAT OFFERING NO HOPE OR CHANGE! You can either raise taxes to cover the additional spending, or cut the runway tax and spending down. Raising taxes HURTS job growth of whcih we've HAD NONE since his adminstration started. He bambozled the American people into raising 787 billion dollar stimulus which didn't work, now he wants to cut military and NASA spending. JFK was for both a strong funded military,& NASA as well as cutting taxes, like Reagan.
@mustangsdiehard1fan ... I asked you why you thought Reagan was the best President ever. You said because he won the most electoral votes...which is the most ridiculous answer to that question...ever. It's okay, though, because English is obviously your second language. So, I'm sure I misunderstood you.
@3dartistguy ... Yes, he inherited a $1.416 trillion budget deficit, to be exact. He also inherited a $10.413 trillion national debt. He attempted to correct the deficit by letting the tax cuts for the rich expire. Of course, the GOP wouldn't allow it. Therefore, the deficit shall continue to grow. Hey, why not? With the exception of Clinton's last four years in office, this country has had a budget deficit every single year since 1970. America is used to it.
