Here is an anti-drug public service announcement from 1986 starring (the rather intense) baseball hall-of-famer Mike Schmidt of the Philadelphia Phillies. It was part of "The Big Lie" anti-cocaine campaign, which ultimately was part of the "Say No to Drugs" campaign started by Nancy Reagan.

  • I loved Mike growin up up until I saw his weepy retirement speech in 89...hard to watch this now without thinkin bout it...

  • I heard part of that hilarious speech on Howard Stern, but I can't find it anywhere online. Do you know where to find it??

  • Mike did play with LONNIE SMITH. The ultimate cokehead! I bet mike tried it once in his life!

  • I still wonder if Lonnie Smith was on coke when he made that base running error in game 7 of the '91 series

  • Schmidt RULES! I wish there were more players like him in MLB right now...I might start watching again...

  • Now all we need is a cokehead to do a PSA against steroids and the series will be complete

  • @rayjr62 Mike Schmidt used to do uppers and downers (he admitted it) as well as engage in bisexual activity with Harry Reems,Joey Silvera,TT Boy,Ron jeramy,Art Shamsky,Dick Pole,Ron Diorio,Wayne Twitchell,Tug McGraw,Willie Hernandez,Von Hayes,Bo Diaz and Dale Berra, who went with Mike Schmidt to downtown Philly and tried to smoke the crack out of the Liberty Bell.

  • He is lying."I don't need drugs." "I believe in my own ability" "I don't want anything interfering the way i play the game"Lies! He probably was doing roids to effect his game.

  • best 3rd baseman of all time.

  • He doesn't do cocaine because it would get stuck in his mustache.

  • The big lie is covering the face the CIA distributes it

  • @Avanti54 If the third base line was made of cocaine Darryl would snort it.

  • @rayjr62 Well, in truth Hernandez didn't have his career hurt by coke. He went on to have a solid career after giving up the nose candy. Dale Berra, on the other hand . . . well, coke didn't hurt his career because he was never anything as a player to begin with. When Dale was with Pittsburgh, he was voted the worst starting shortstop in the majors - TWICE! I did indeed forget U.L. Washington. Thanks, Ray!

  • @elc1960 You forgot Dale Berra, U.L. "where's my toothpick?" Washington and Keith "I am greater than life itself: Hernandez.

  • Yeah, well. . . you kept defending your butt-buddy Pete Rose (even after he admitted he bet on baseball). . so, you must have been snorting something.
