excellent quote Kellogg! ive been arguing for a long time with others here on youtube who play joplin to fast or stray from the written music and i point out quotes from school of ragtime where joplin himself is saying never play ragtime fast. i usually play Swipsey at about 70bpm

Good job! Perfect tempo for an old time cake walk dance!  Note that in his "School of Ragtime" Scott Joplin wrote this about his ragtime tempo: "Play slow until you catch the swing, and never play ragtime fast at any time." So always keep in mind Joplin's tempo whenever you play his ragtime music ... play his ragtime as a slow walk or slow march, just as you've done here.
