Member of Parliament Olivia Chow (Trinity-Spadina) speaks out against the failing Liberal-Conservative combat "mission" and in support of increased aid and development, women's rights and a truly positive and independent role for Canada in Afghanistan.
Chow speaks on April 19th, 2006 in the Canadian Parliament during a debate in the House of Commons.
Olivia Chow and the New Democractic Party (NDP) received a strong mandate in 2006 from their grassroots members across the country to support the troops by bringing them home. Afghan MP and women's rights advocate Malalai Joya supported this call for a change in Canadian policy to ensure real peace and security for the Afghan people.
Chow and the NDP want to restore Canada's reputation overseas by playing a lead role in efforts to reconcile waring factions and encouraging disarming by significantly increasing real aid and support for the people of Afghanistan who have been victimized by decades of occupation, war and entrenched poverty.
