Tales from the Okefenokee was a dark ride at Six Flags Over Georgia from 1967 through 1980. This was the first version of the ride which lasted for just one year. It features "the Old Plantation Tales" penned by Joel Chandler Harris, including characters like Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, and Brer Bear.

  • I wish there was video footage somewhere of the entire ride....probably not..

  • This was a very primative ride indeed, but this was 1967,when techno had not come on the scene yet. This is more special to us that are now in our mid-late 40's and early 50's,because we rode this whenh we were kids and teens.Monster Plantation even still,is nowhere near the nostalgic and heart-touching ride that Tales was.

  • @AnAutumnWind I remember. It seems like the cannons really looked like they were going off, and a water cannon went off near the boat. Or maybe there were just lights inside them. I totally forgot all about that ride. There were whirlpools too i think. And if you looked back at the Indians, they went backwards resetting for the next boat.

  • @AnAutumnWind That was the river boat ride. alligators Indians and you knew the were gonna shoot those cannons and get wet. Then you'de think it was all over then shoot one more. Also remember if you didn't leave a sun visor down on your car they put a Six Flags bumper sticker on your car. My dad had a brand new '67 Plymouth and forgot the visor deal. He hated stickers on a car. Funny to us though. Everyone brought picnic lunch and ate by the Chatahoochee river.

  • the ride wasn't bulldozed nor destroyed when it was changed from tales from the okefenokee to monster plantation. the channel is the same, and the TFTO building was given an exterior remodeling and some small additions to bring about the monster plantation.

  • Do you remember the spanish fort? You rode a boat thru and at one point indians went by aiming arrows at you and then the end was supposed to be cannons firing and everyone got wet.

  • I like the flume lift hill and the flume drop part.

  • yeah i thought it was creepy when i found out about it.the figures went into the garbage along with the sets and murals when they converted it to MP.

  • From what I can remember (I was only 5 at the time), very cool--for a kid, that is! I remember a wild lightning storm, going through some type of tunnel/bridge, and I actually remember those singing carrots! I do remember being a little afraid of it, though. LOL. It was a lot simpler than the MP, of course. I can't wait to see what the third version of this ride will be!
