British Petroleum! The apogee of the "On The Move" campaign of 1994, and a typically huge, overblown, high-budget commercial of the kind we see a lot of these days in purely mathematical terms, but which died out creatively some time in the mid to late nineties.

This is BP blowing its own trumpet to a volume of several dozen decibels; the amount of sheer balls-out triumphalism is indicated by the personnel. Tim Piggot Smith's voiceover? Okay. Special effects by ILM? Jesus, alright. Music by John Williams? Holy shit! Directed by STEVEN SPIELBERG? ARE YOU SHITTING ME? No, that's the God's honest truth: BP hired Steven Spielberg to do this. He probably needed it after Schindler's List.

I think the Deepwater Horizon disaster was bad for more than the shrimp cocktails, there.

Right because not having a perfect shrimp cocktail is the same as having one million people killed in mass bombing and ten years of political unrest and the rise of Islamic extremism due to a war of oppression for oil. Sure your perspective is spot on.

I was a major protester against the Afghan war and Iraq wars before they happened. I turned down a job in NYC in 2009 because I new it was a matter of time before our sorry foreign policies led to a successful attack.. I have plenty of perspective but, it doesn't mean what BP did was right. I grew up on the coasts and my family survived on shrimping and seafood. Come down to the gulf coast if you want some "perspective". The government already screwed us after Katrina and then this!

Ad agency people are so soulless when they accepted money to build the brand of the most evil corporate empire known to mankind.

Am I sad that the gulf disaster is happening? Hell yes! 11 people lost their lives and many many more are losing their livelihood, this is a catastrophe that is altering lives, but this "America is the victim" attitude stinks! Tens of thousands of people in Bhopal, India are still awaiting justice and 182 families in Scotland are still missing loved ones. The US pioneered cost-cutting, now they reap the disadvantages.

Dude, in the 1980's (or70's) more than 3,000 Indians died when an American chemical plant exploded releasing millions of tonnes of gas in India. It almost wiped out an entire Indian town. In 1988 a "cost-cutting" measure by a US Oil company led to the deaths of 182 British Oil men during the Piper Alpha disaster (the greatest offshore accident in history.)
