Brady and the gents at Walrus Audio have created something special in the Voyager Boost/OD. It does a great clean boost as well as overdrive, all the time retaining definition and adding a special *something*. I'd class it with the Tim and Klon in that it does both jobs well, with its own unique voice.

Well done, lads! Can't wait to see what this company delivers next.

Cheers,

Brett K.

  • Hey Burg's, long time fan, love your work. Your video's keep me poor, heheh. I'm a strat man and would love to hear this pedal with a strat, sounds great with both the guitars you used.I know tone is a personal thing but It would be great to know your favourite settings on the pedals you review, as you would use them in a gig situation. Thanks, Matt.

  • @747HOODOO Hey, Matt. Thanks for writing and for the kind words. The videos aren't meant to keep you poor, just informed. I actually reached for the Strat to do this vid but went for the groovier looking JM instead. Your request is noted, though - I'll plan a future Voyager video with more conventional gear. Cheers, B. :)

  • Burgs, how would to compare the pickups of the jazzmaster to those of a strat?

(if you would like to do a video comparison i would not try to stop you ;))

  • @vileguile4 That's a good question and one that I also asked before I satisfied my curiosity by buying this CIJ Jazzy. A Jazzmaster has a lot of 'percussive' qualities. This is a result of the body, neck and bridge/tremolo combination/construction. This percussiveness lends a lot to note clarity. More so than any other major style of guitar I've played. Sustain is not their big thing, but that's one of their charms as well. The pickups are warmish, but generally noisier than Strat pickups...TBC

  • @vileguile4 They are wider and flatter so I'm guessing the extra field attracts a little more noise. The bridge pickup is pretty spikey, at least on my specimen, which, by the way, has AVRI's - the Japanese originals were removed by the last owner. Back to the note definition: Very important. A better chording guitar I have yet to play. Every note rings through. That's a great thing and a quality that seems to be particular to Jazzmasters. Try one, you might like it as much as I do! Cheers, B.

  • wow. you have like the most beautiful guitars. EVER.

  • @giggs102 Nah, all guitars are beautiful. It's just the Mornington Peninsula lighting. All natural! :) Cheers, B.

  • Love the jazzmaster I was so anti-fender till i played a jm

  • Never will I be as educated by pedal demos as I am while I watch these ha. What is the most compressed overdrive pedal or filthier boost you have ever come across? Or perhaps a few of the most compressed!

  • "Orange Drops" and 1% resistors? Damn....do that to ANY pedal and you've got a golden tone.....It'd be even nicer if those are Burr Brown IC's in there, can't tell from here.

I modified an Ibby TS9 with cap/resistor/opamp upgrades and I would put it up against any OD pedal ever made, Klon, Tim, Zendrive, KOT, Ethos, you name it. High-grade components are the name of the game. Nice to see Walrus Audio does quality work with quality parts.

  • my next pedal

  • dang, burgs, it's amazing how the voyager works cap in hand with the hiwatt! really diggin this pedal! killer grind!

  • Sounds awesome man. Dig it.

  • Hi Burg, awesome test! I appreciate very very much your choice to play the same lick clean and with different pedal settings: this give real consciousness in different sounds possibilities in using (this) pedals.

    Great teaching approach, Brett!!!!!

Only one answer: which are differences among this pedal, the Wampler Paisley and Ecstasy one (I own this last one, a Plextortion and a Pinnacle 2 Ltd, and play classic pop-rock music)??

  • this one has warp 11
