In Boy Scouts we tie up a hammock with a clove hitch on one end and a taught line hitch on the other to adjust it. we finish it with a slippery half hitch to make it quick release.

A very clear video of Mears' preferred '3-Knot System' for basic camp setup.
I've used these knots personally and can attest they will hold significant weight in the intended purpose. Further, the incorporation of a slip-knot system really simplifies break-down.

kids and I will be using this new knowledge next weekend at a boy scouts jamboree.
Will be nice to use these knots instead of all the half hitches and such I used to use

Yeah these knots are really awesome and you can use these in various other situations too. Until I met these knots, I used to use the chinese transport knots for tensioning tents and/or tarps, but they're not quick release.
