Untitled Longing... Chapter 231

Joe's POV.
After the initial shock that came with the story, I got angry. Real angry, real fast. Not at Brooke; not at all at her. At Alex. I want to beat him up for all he's worth - which isn't much, mind you - and rip his head off, then burn it. But I want him to stay alive and suffer. I dont want him to have the satisfaction of dying. I pull Brooke closer to my chest.
"I love you," she says out of the blue. It makes me smile.
"I love you, too. And I love hearing you say that," I reply. She smiles against my chest; I feel it.
"How are you doing?" Brooke asks as she sits up and props herself up on her elbows. She doesn't look me in the eyes. She looks at her hand, which is softly tracing the planes of my stomach and chest.
"About the information? Well, I feel an undeniable need to kill Alex... And I'm worried about your safety," I admit. Brooke smiles a small smile, which makes me wonder.
"I'll be fine. And I won't stand in your way when you beat Alex to a pulp," she tells me. I snicker.
"Also... He cant legally come near me. After his threat I took out a restraining order against him," Brooke informs me.
"That makes me feel so much better," I admit.
"I thought it would... But as we saw the other day, Alex doesn't care much for the law. Which was also pretty obvious when he took Summer and poor little Joy." I detect the obvious pain, suffering and guilt in her voice. I feel bad that she's feeling so much guilt. It's far from her fault.
"Wait... Why haven't the police checked out Alex house yet? They're pretty likely to be there," I realize.
"I have no idea where he lives now," Brooke starts. "He moved after we broke up. He could be anywhere."
"Yeah, but shouldn't a cop or something be able to figure out where he is? I mean, doesn't it work like that?" I sigh. Suddenly my phone rings and I move to get it. Brooke leans over and grabs it for me. The caller I.D. tells me it's my little brother.
"Nick? Everything okay?" I ask. As soon as I do, I feel completely worn out. Anger takes a lot out of me
"I'm not sure," he replies in a nervous whisper.
"Why are you whispering?" I ask curiously. Brooke looks at me and I give her a look saying I don't know what's going on either.
:I need to ask Brooke something," Nick replies, completely ignoring my question.
"I'll put her on," I tell him immediately. Must be important. I whisper, "he wants you" to Brooke and she nods.
"Hey, Nick, what's going on?" Brooke asks. I detect a worry in her tone. I don't hear what Nick replies, so I wait for Brooke to continue her side of the conversation.
"Is Auden there with you?!" Brooke cries and she straightens up immediately. I sit up with her.
"She's Summer's cousin!" Brooke continues. Cousin? Summer? What? I feel SO out of the loop. I pout. Brooke sees and runs her fingers along my lips, leaving tingles in their wake.
"They're close, too. I can imagine why she's there, I just didn't think she'd be here." Nick says something.
"Just 'cause she lives far away. It's no big deal. But yeah, if you're calling to see if she was for real; she is. She's a really good person. Listen, Nick, I want you to stay optimistic. Joe and I are alright here, and I hope you're okay, too. But I need to go. I love you," Brooke finishes. I smile and she looks at me. I guess I'm not the only Jonas she's telling this to. She leans over and kisses me softly. I can hear the murmur of Nick's voice through the phone, but not what he says.
"About Alex, or that I love him?" Brooke asks, grinning happily at me. She presses her lips to mine, my phone still glued to her ear. I know Nick is saying goodbye, but Brooke's lips dont leave mine. She slowly pushes my mouth open with her own and I open my mouth willingly.
"Mmm..." she says into the phone and then throws it down on the bed. I wrap my arms around her back and she pushes me over onto the bed. She half climbs on top of me and I pull her over my torso. Our chests press against each other and I feel the warmth radiating from her body. Our tongues wrestle for control, and it's something I'm not about to let her win. She eventually surrenders and pulls back to look at me. She reconnects our lips and murmurs, "I love you," against my lips.
"Mm... I love you, too," I reply happily. Brooke continues to kiss me and I eventually roll over. I pull my lips from hers and lean back. I run my fingers through her hair and look at her. I can see the love in her eyes so clearly, I don't know why I hadn't really seen it before. I mean, I suspected it was there, but I was never completely certain. I guess it was me doubting myself The phone rings, jolting me out of my revelation.

Brooke and Joe are always so sweet together. They're such a wonderful couple and now they're even cuter with their newfound confidence of the words "I love you".

I wonder what that new phone call is. If you've said in prior chapters, I feel pretty stupid.
