Based on a true story, this documentary-style caper film follows a federal agent on a dangerous assignment -- he must go underground to flush out a nefarious spy ring. Leonard Maltin praises this suspenseful political tales as "low key, and effective." Starring Frank Lovejoy ("Home of the Brave," "House of Wax"), favorite '50s quiz show guest Dorothy Hart and Philip Carey ("Calamity Jane," "Dead Ringer").
A lot of similarities to today and organized labor. Not saying Russia is trying to take over USA, but Organized Labor is somewhat communistic and communists are trying to take over America.

Nominated for "Best Documentary Feature" by the Academy that year ... I guess there is no "Best Propaganda" award. Too bad it doesn't mention the screenwriters blacklisted in the film industry for being "guilty by association". Or the support by the USA of the colonial French "anti-communist" empire in Viet Nam ... or the USA's puppets of the banana republics in Central America, etc. Ironically, the film is in black and white... a reduction of the Cold War to good vs. evil.

"Pittsburgh - the strong heart of America's industrial might - where the commies have planted themselves to throw that heart offbeat." - - - of course, they needn't bother anymore. The unions have done it for them.

I remember when I was a child, I asked my Dad: "Did the communists really do all those terrible things?"
He replied: "Yes. I'm afraid they did."

That is hilarious...a Red for the Fed...that would have been a great title. I am actually watching this b/c I'm in an American History class I'm taking. It is neat to see what life was like back in that era. I don't think most people understand the hysteria concerning the "Red Scare" that took place around both world wars. In our media it seems that when the 50's are portrayed you see rock n roll and poodle skirts...not the reality of the era.

Some nice early 50's film noir! Always enjoyed the work of intense actor Frank Lovejoy. Wonderful voice...no wonder he was so active in radio! I guess an alternalte title for this flick could have been "I WAS A RED FOR THE FED"! :) THANKS for sharing this fascinating footage with us! Cheers! :)
