[l'ull cec] dimecres 24/01 concert reacTable* @ La Sala (c) Castelló, 20:00 hrs

Presentació del reacTable a Barcelona

The reactable, is a state-of-the-art multi-user electro-acoustic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving physical artefacts on the table surface and constructing different audio topologies in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language.

The reactable hardware is based on a translucent round table. A video camera situated beneath, continuously analyzes the table surface, tracking the nature, position and orientation of the objects that are distributed on its surface, representing the components of a classic modular synthesizer. These objects are passive without any sensors or actuators, users interact by moving them, changing their position, their orientation or their faces (in the case of volumetric objects). These actions directly control the topological structure and parameters of the sound synthesizer. A projector, also from underneath the table, draws dynamic animations on its surface, providing a visual feedback of the state, the activity and the main characteristics of the sounds produced by the audio synthesizer.

  • ok, for the whole language thing, why dont you try learning a new language if you want to understand them so bad? you cant make everybody speak ur language no matter how hard you try. it is a public website they can speak what they want. if you dont like it just ignore it. but please dont be disrespectful out of your ignorance. Im sure if you ask nicely someone will translate for you

  • It's only a matter of time until someone masters the reactable and creates a symphony on it. To those who say it just makes noise... Well, so does an electric guitar or violin or saxophone if you don't know how to play it. This is still vey new. Most of the concert videos are of people just playing around or experimenting. I've heard someone play Bach on a Theramin and it was exuisite. Just wait.

  • Its called improvisation...

  • э американс русские есть?

  • I've heard great music with the reactable. These guys suck. A 3 year old can do what they're doing. There's no method to their madness. Without structure it's just noise, which ironically is the name of this genre of music. At the end it get's cool but I couldn't watch it because of the shitty camera work.

  • ok bro thats ubercool!

  • The sound technology is nothing special, it's pretty simple modular synthesis with sample players added. Reactable is about the übercool user interface, not about the sounds it can produce.

  • I think that the reactable is just good with the musci of bjork

  • You're right dude! highest respect for the technology - however, were these used for the sound effects in 'Contact' starring Jodie Foster?

i'm sure some dudes will be ripping dope sounds on these sooner rather than later though! chur

  • Sadly, it is mainly crap.

Anyways, Reactable, itself, is an amazing invention as a very new concept of interface.

  • most of contemporary musci sounds like this, you're saying that contemporary music is mainly crap.

Maybe, you just don't like it.

  • I don't know about arguments as to this being art/music or not...

But god damn it sounds like crap.

Take away the visual, you have an agonizing clash of alien sounds. Like a HAM operator's attempt at Jazz.

Not saying it's not music. Just saying that if it is music, it's crap.
