The knife dance is a Persian wedding ritual. Someone on the bride's side steals the cake knife and starts dancing with it. The groom has to pay up to get the knife back.

  • Such a beautiful memory! That was so sweet for her to dance for the bride and groom(: I love being Persian. Our culture is so exotic &unique. The knife dance is one of the intimate moments of a Persian wedding. By the way, the setting is GORGEOUS~!

  • ... says a modern looking, English speaking Afghan hiding a Taliban mentality. No wonder the country still lives in the 13th century. No wonder the poor daughters of "modern" emigre Afghan families still end up in ditches in Kingston murdered by their own fathers and brothers. Hopeless!

  • @aaliyahraks Yes, in this instance the bride chose one person, her sister, to perform the dance, but the other variation which you mentioned (namely, several persons taking turns to dance with the knife) is also possible. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The world is full of beautiful cultures and rituals and beliefs and colours. I wish everyone could just enjoy and appreciate the beauty.

  • @aaliyahraks Thank you for your comment and I totally agree with you; the phrase "their logic" could be offensive to Europeans. But I hope you realize I was not trying to do reverse-racism against Europeans. By "their" I meant 18th century colonial masters who produced race theories which have unfortunately plagued our world today. I have nothing against Europeans or any other race/ethnicity. I respect all and wish we could share the world as just humans, free from obsolete race consciousnesses.

  • @Falconbsb1 "Engar Na Engar" by Mansour. Type this phrase in YouTube and you should get the song.

  • @rezaeiya I have seen some Persian knife dance videos where several women get up and take turns dancing. In this instance did the bride only choose one person (her sister) to dance? I think its a lovely dance to include in a wedding. Just asking so i learn

  • @rezaeiya I agree racism is wrong. I am European and think that we are all equal. I do not like all this fighting people do and wish the world was a happier and safer place for everyone. by saying 'reproducing their logic' that sounds racist to Europeans. ha ha ..... I think all races, countries and cultures are beautiful ... i wish there was enough time in my lifetime to learn all of the beautiful languages and dances from around the world.

There are good and bad people in all races

  • I think these culture is amazin.. my boyfriend is from iran and i like his culture and i respect it!,... im here just to know if someone knows the name of the song please!

  • She dances beautifully, i love Irani music;)

  • @swaggerthejagger1 Racism is wrong whether it is by Iranians towards Afghans, or vice versa, or in any other form. I think people really need to see that this form of racism is a direct consequence of European colonialism. By being racists, we are reproducing their logic: that we are all inferior to Europeans. Iranians, Afghans, Kurds, Tajiks, etc. are all Iranic people (and i don't mean this in the sense of Iranian nationalism) and should treat each other as members of the same family.
