It's been almost 3 years since Black Saturday - the worst bushfires Australia has ever seen.

Lasting from the 7th of February 2009 to the 14th of March 2009, these fires burnt through 1.1 million acres of land. Up to 400 individual fires were recoded at one point in time.

But these fires didn't only take the land; 173 lives went with them. And up to 450 people were severely injured. Most people killed died in their cars trying to escape. The first warning these people got was the smoke, and they just couldn't get away fast enough.

RIP the victims of Black Saturday, and our hearts go out to the families who lost their loved ones. Many thanks also go to the volunteer firemen and women who risked their lives to save people and their properties.

And anyone who has experienced a bushfire knows exactly how these people felt. You can't outrun it. There's smoke everywhere. It's burning hot. It's terrifying. It's like hell on earth. So please, PLEASE, if you live in a bushfire risk area, be prepared.
